As your wedding day comes up, you might be considering whether or not you want to do a first look. While there is no pressure to do one, there are SO many benefits and reasons why many of my couples do opt for wedding first looks! So you might be asking… what are wedding first looks?! A first look is when the bride and groom find a time before their ceremony to see each other for the first time. The only ones present for your special first look will be you and your photographer/videographer if you have one. There are so many reasons why people opt for a first look. There are so many incredible benefits of doing one!! Even though I love a first look, I always recommend my couples doing whatever they feel comfortable with. I want your day to go how you want it, even though I love shooting first looks! This is just meant to help you decide whether it’s right for you, and why I recommend it so much!

Benefits of Wedding First Looks

Let’s dive into all of the benefits or wedding first looks and why I suggest having one! First and foremost, it will be your only alone time through your wedding day. It allows you to have a chance to talk and be with each other without other people involved. Second, your hair and makeup will be fresh and new for your photos! You don’t have to worry about touch ups before your photos! Third, you’ll receive way more options in your wedding gallery because of the extended time during the first look! And finally, so many couples say their nerves went away before their ceremony after they saw each other! It helps you to feel more relaxed and you’re able to feel more present during your ceremony.

Other Wedding First Looks Besides Bride and Groom

Consider doing a father daughter first look if you and your father are super close. It gives you two a special time to connect and see each other before the hectic ceremony and reception begins. These have become one of my favorite moments during a first look because they are so emotional and sweet! It’s the perfect way to show them your look for the first time and capture their faces. Good communication is a must for these first looks.
