What To Wear For Your Engagement Photos

I am so excited to hopefully be working with you and I can’t wait for our time together during your engagement session! It is totally normal to be a little nervous or confused about what to wear for your engagement photos but don’t worry I have you covered and it’s so important to showcase your personalities throughout your entire day with me!! Let’s get to it!

WHAT TO WEAR

I always recommend wearing two outfits during your session: one dressy and one casual. I love it when my couples go all out for their dressy outfits. It’s fun to think of these outfit choices as a “date night”! The biggest piece of advice I give to my clients is to wear outfits that compliment each other, not match. It’s 100% the way to go!

OUTFIT TIPS FOR LOOKING YOUR BEST

Make sure to remember that when you are picking outfits create a combination that compliments each other, instead of matches for when you are trying to figure out what to wear for your engagement photos! For instance, if the groom-to-be is wearing pastel plaid shirt, the bride-to-be should choose something similar to a long, soft blue dress. A great idea is to choose “color-families,” such as pastels or jewel tones.

Usually, couples pick two outfits for an engagement session: a more formal outfit and a casual outfit. I recommend saving your favorite outfit for later in the session. This is because this is usually when couples feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Don’t forget to bring a few accessories to use as props throughout and add to the details of the entire shoot! Think: statement necklaces, cute shoes, fun hat and classic watches, etc.

OUTFIT TIPS FOR THE GENTS

You can’t go wrong with a suit and tie. Consider pulling out that suit you had to wear last time you were a groomsmen! Layer with a blazer and a fun tie! You can even wear jeans with this look. I love it when my couples include bowties too. When choosing a pattern for your shirts or blazer so it doesn’t look too busy. Focus on the softer, neutral colors that compliment your skin tones! You could also go for the cozy sweaters layered over button ups! This is an amazing way to stay warm and stylish at the same time! These are some ideas on what to wear for your engagement photos, gents!

OUTFIT TIPS FOR THE LADIES

Think, how can I feel good and look good all in one? This will help you figure out what to wear for your engagement photos! I always let my clients know that heels lengthen legs. If your heels aren’t comfortable for walking, bring an extra pair of shoes to slip into in between shots. I love the way larger patterns photograph. Again, make sure the pattern isn’t too busy! Softer, pastel colors tend to photograph better than bright colors!

ACCESSORIES FOR THE LADIES

Statement jewelry is an amazing way to add color or pattern to a simple dress. I love seeing dresses with lace sleeves because they are a great way to help slim arms. Depending on your location, you might want to consider a fit and flare or a flowy dress! Make sure to always choose an outfit you feel comfortable in, but don’t be afraid to dress up which will help you with figuring out what to wear for your engagement photos!!
